FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Once a dahlia is in my cart, will it secure it for checkout?

Unfortunately, placing a dahlia in your cart will not secure it for checkout.  Our e-commerce platform does not allow us to change this.  If there is a dahlia you really want, it is best to check out as soon as possible.  Some helpful tips for checking out faster are to be logged into your PayPal account prior to the sale opening or to save your credit card into your google wallet.

I placed multiple orders, is it possible to combine or add to them?

We will offer combined shipping if you email us with your order numbers.  We cannot add to an order once placed, but you can make a separate order for combined shipping.

Am I able to change or cancel my order?

Orders cannot be altered or canceled once placed as the tubers are already subtracted from our inventory

What can I expect in my shipment?

You will receive a single, healthy tuber that has an eye, which is the area of growth for the plant.  Our tubers are dug by hand and inspected before washing and dividing.  A single tuber will produce a very robust plant and multiply into more tubers that you can split in the fall to multiply your personal stock!

When will my order ship?

We will ship your order when the risk of freezing has passed in MN.  Placing orders in trucks prior to that risks damage to the tuber.  In most cases, we are able to safely ship tubers in Mid April, which still allows plenty of time for beautiful blooms during the summer.

Do you offer local pick up?

We offer local pick up from our Prior Lake location starting mid April.  We will contact local pick up customers with dates and times.

Do you ship outside of the United States?

We cannot ship outside of the United States.

My tubers arrived, now what?

Once you receive your shipment, you should open the box immediately and make sure your order is correct.  We will have the name written on each tuber.  Keeping the tubers in the box can lead to rot.  Inspect your tubers and make sure they are free of mold, rot, or soft spots.  Store the tubers in a cool location until you are ready to start planting.  Some tubers may have more visible eyes than others and tubers will come in all shapes and sizes.  This does not affect its ability to grow.

Tubers can be started indoors under lights prior to planting in your garden.  Place the tuber horizontally in a tray with the eye facing up and cover with a soilless potting blend.  You can lightly mist the soil if it feels dry, but it is important the tuber not be in wet soil as this can lead to rotting.  You should let the soil dry between watering.

Once the risk of frost has passed, you can plant your started dahlias outside.  It is ideal to harden them off as you would tomato plants or other seedlings started indoors.  The soil temp should be above 55 degrees before planting outside.  Dahlias like well drained soil high in organic matter.   Soil that does not drain can lead to tuber rot.

If you do not have space to start your tubers indoors, they can be directly planted in your garden.  They should be planted in well drained gardens once the soil temp is above 55 degrees.   Dahlias prefer full sun.
